Job Description
Manager, Clinical Operations performs a variety of duties associated with planning and organizing clinical trial activities. They concentrate mainly on scheduling, ensuring that assigned activities are performed effectively and that quality standards are met.
It’s not a position that allows you to delegate tasks. You should get involved where necessary, go through some processes, and assist in solving various issues that may arise. In most cases, the Manager performs the functions of both facilitator and participant.
Coordination plays a key part here since one works with different teams. There is also a constant collaboration with all stakeholders, so your communication skills should be strong and realistic. You should be able to organize everything properly but not overcomplicate any process. You will work under supervision of the Senior Manager, Associate Director or Director.
The role may also involve keeping an eye on project performance and ensuring work stays aligned with both timelines and budget expectations.
It is suitable for people who do not mind taking on responsibilities, juggling tasks, and working in a position that does not allow monotony.
Key Responsibilities
Project Monitoring and Implementation
Monitor the progression of clinical trials and ensure that timelines are on schedule
Evaluate the project performance at an overall level through simple measures of quality and raise any concerns about any aspect of the process
Perform a careful review of deliverables for any issues related to compliance with standards
Assess potential risks and act on them before they create serious problems
Engage in project activities and provide assistance when required
Control budgets and ensure that projects remain within the projected expenditure levels
Help to plan and monitor resource utilization to ensure that resources are utilized optimally
Prepare and circulate regular status reports
Ensure that all trial documentation is accurate and updated
Keep following up on the progress of trial processes
Team Management and Mentorship
Work towards building a competent and stable team
Be involved in the process of performing evaluations and coaching sessions
Mentor your team such that their roles are well known to them
Balance your assignments with regard to the team’s capacities
Give your team the required support in coaching and training
Conduct an assessment of team performance and provide feedback for improvement
Help your team become competent in prioritization and time management
Ensure that open communication channels are maintained for addressing problems
Help your new team members feel comfortable and acquainted with their jobs
Serve as an intermediary between the team and management on performance related issues
Client/ Stakeholder Communication and Coordination
Serving as an important point of contact for the relevant projects
Attending meetings in order to provide feedbacks, clarify issues, and set expectations
Helping out with the proposal-based activities or discussion of potential projects
Being part of discussion sessions that may result in future business opportunities/projects
Being a proponent of clear and professional communication at all times
Providing information without delay and on time
Handling client feedback and following up with necessary actions
Compliance and Quality Management
Ensure that all activities adhere to the regulatory standards and procedures
Keep in line with the guidelines of ICH-GCP and the internal process flow of the organization
Help in conducting quality assessments and prepare for any audits/reviews
Maintain consistency in the process throughout each project
Follow a systematic approach to assessing and mitigating risks
Undertake corrective actions when there are any quality concerns
Make recommendations on how the process could be improved
Operational and Administrative Duties
Manage day-to-day administrative duties associated with tracking, reporting, and documenting
Maintain awareness of several projects and current work being done
Have your records in order so that you can access them whenever needed
Provide reports on a regular basis rather than at long intervals
Ensure that you complete simple administrative tasks like timesheets, training updates, or travel expenses
Keep up your productivity and encourage others to do the same
Participate in internal process improvement initiatives when necessary
Be a contributing factor in building a productive working environment
Qualifications and Skills
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in:
Life Sciences
Nursing
Pharmacy, or
Any other health related field
Experience Requirements
Experience in clinical research or clinical operations
It will definitely help if you have some prior experience of working on projects/people
Desired Skills & Competencies
Knowledge of how clinical trials work
Awareness about ICH-GCP guidelines
Organizational ability while working on several things at once
Effective communicator - should be fluent in local language, and English (oral and written)
Ability to interact with different teams without any confusion
Practical approach to problem-solving
Good attention to detail, especially while reviewing things
Handling pressure well
Remuneration & Fringe Benefits
The remuneration for this job is INR 17 LPA. Negotiations can be done based on individual experience and internal policies of the organization.
