Job Summary
The Ancillary Coding Specialist is responsible for the accurate review, analysis and assignment of medical codes for ancillary services including laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, therapy and other outpatient/diagnostic services. This role is responsible for compliance with coding standards, payer requirements and company policies to ensure correct billing and reimbursement. Medical coding is carried out in compliance with the ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, CPT guidelines for documenting professional and surgical services, CMS updates, Coding Clinic articles published by the American Hospital Association, code assignments from the HCPCS code book for supplies and equipment and NCCI Edits and Client Coding Guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Review and assign accurate CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM codes for various healthcare services.
Follow client guidelines, payer requirements, CMS regulations, and company SOPs while coding.
Meet required productivity and quality targets for medical coding work.
Handle coding for laboratory, radiology, infusion/pharmacy, and PT/OT/ST therapy services.
Identify and resolve coding edits, claim denials, and rejections within the required TAT.
Complete assigned work within established SLAs and turnaround timelines.
Verify medical records and documentation to ensure medical necessity and accurate coding.
Work effectively with team members and contribute ideas to improve quality and productivity.
Maintain patient confidentiality, system security, and HIPAA compliance at all times.
Follow company policies, employment terms, work assignments, and operational requirements as business needs change.
Educational Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Pharmacy, Life Sciences, Healthcare, Medical Coding, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
Life Science or Allied Health graduates with AAPC or AHIMA certification are preferred.
Ability to stay updated with and apply AMA, AHA, and CMS coding guidelines.
Knowledge of NCCI edits, LCDs, and NCDs and their impact on medical coding.
Strong knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology.
Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.

The average salary for an Associate Medical Coder at Optum Global Solutions in India ranges from ₹3.2 Lakhs to ₹6.8 Lakhs per year. Total compensation varies based on certifications, shift policies, and office location.
