Pharmacy Jobs in India for B.Pharm, M.Pharm and PharmD Graduates

So you've got a pharmacy degree and looking for a job… Great Start!

Pharmacy jobs in India aren't limited to medical stores anymore. Hospitals hire. Big pharma companies hire. Retail chains, regulatory bodies, clinical research firms, even health-tech startups. All of them are looking for trained pharmacists right now.

At Jobslly, you can browse pharmacist jobs across Tier 1 and Tier 2 areas, sorted by your degree, city, and how much experience you have.

Where Are Pharmacy Jobs Hiding in India?

Most B.Pharm freshers think pharmacy means hospital pharmacy or running a medical store. That's it. But the field has way more places where pharmacists actually work. Here's where the real openings live:

  • Hospital Pharmacist Jobs: Big hospital chains keep hiring, like Apollo, Fortis, Max, Manipal, Narayana Health. Government hospitals like AIIMS, ESIC, and state-run facilities also recruit on a regular basis. Stable jobs and steady growth, which is a solid first step for B.Pharm grads.
  • Retail Pharmacist Jobs: Apollo Pharmacy, MedPlus, 1mg, Tata 1mg, Wellness Forever, Netmeds. They open hundreds of medical store pharmacist roles every month. Customer-facing work, store operations, billing, basic counselling.
  • Pharma Manufacturing Jobs: Production, QC chemist roles, quality assurance, formulation development. The big pharma companies that hire here are Cipla, Sun Pharma, Dr. Reddy's, Lupin, Aurobindo, Glenmark, and Torrent. Lab work. Shift-based. Good growth path if you like the technical side.
  • Regulatory Affairs Jobs: You handle drug approval submissions to bodies like CDSCO, USFDA, and EMA. Heavy on paperwork, but among the highest-paid roles in pharmacy. Companies like Freyr, Indegene, and Lambda hire a lot for this.
  • Drug Inspector Jobs: Government posts under the State Drug Control Departments. Recruitment goes through public exams: authority, pension, and stability.
  • Pharmacovigilance and Clinical Research: B.Pharm and M.Pharm holders are exactly what firms like IQVIA, Parexel, ICON, Accenture, and TCS look for. Mostly remote work and pays decently from day one.

Salary Expectations Based on Your Degree

Your degree changes your starting salary more than anything else. Here's how it actually plays out.

  • B.Pharm freshers: Start at ₹2L to ₹4L. Retail pharmacy is on the lower end. Pharma company QC and production roles are slightly better.
  • M.Pharm graduates: Start earning from 3.5 Lakh to 6 Lakh per annum. They get into higher roles such as formulation, R&D, advanced QC, and regulatory roles which the B.Pharm students don’t get into.
  • PharmD graduates: Begin from earning 4 Lakh to 8 Lakh per annum. PharmD students are eligible for clinical pharmacy roles, MSL positions, and drug information centre jobs across India.
  • D.Pharm students: Start earning from 1.5 Lakh to 3 Lakh yearly, where they work across retail and dispensing work.

(Note: Adding CPC certifications (regulatory affairs short course) or PV diploma into the studies can hike salaries by 50k to 1.5 Lakh. It’s a short course of 6-8 weeks only.)

Cities With the Highest Pharmacy Hiring

Not all Indian cities hire equally. Pharma manufacturing is clustered in specific zones, while retail and hospital pharmacy are spread out everywhere.

  • Hyderabad is the country's pharma capital. Dr. Reddy's, Aurobindo, Divi's Labs, Hetero, Mylan, all here. Tons of QC, production, and regulatory jobs.
  • Mumbai has Cipla, Lupin, Glenmark, and a strong regulatory and marketing job market.
  • Ahmedabad and Vadodara house Sun Pharma, Torrent, and Zydus Cadila. Big manufacturing hub.
  • Bangalore has Biocon and Strides Pharma, plus a growing biopharma and regulatory scene.
  • Delhi NCR is heavy on retail pharmacy hiring (1mg, Tata 1mg, Apollo Pharmacy) and hospital pharmacy openings.
  • Chennai has Orchid Pharmaceuticals and Caplin Point, plus solid hospital pharmacy work.
  • Tier-2 cities like Indore, Pune, Baddi (Himachal Pradesh), Goa, and Visakhapatnam have growing pharma manufacturing presence too.

Frequently Asked Questions: Pharmacy Jobs in India

Common questions from healthcare professionals

For pharmacy jobs, you need to pursue D.Pharm, B.Pharm, or M.Pharm degrees. When you complete the degrees, ensure you have State Pharmacy Council Registrations for hospital and retail roles. Pharma companies in production, QC, and regulatory often hire B.Pharm or MSc Chemistry graduates without council registration.
A fresher in B.Pharm can earn approx 2 Lakh to 4 Lakh per annum on average. Retail pharmacy pays slightly less, about 2 Lakh to 3 Lakh. However, QC and Production roles pay about 3 Lakh to 4 Lakh per annum.
Regulatory affairs and clinical research pay higher to pharmacy graduates. Senior regulatory specialists can earn approx 15 LPA to 40 LPA. Medical Science Liaison roles in pharma companies pay approx 8 LPA to 25 LPA. You can also apply for drug inspector government jobs that pay well and offer pensions and steady promotions.
Yes, you can get jobs with B.Pharm at hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, medical representative roles, pharmacovigilance, and entry-level production work. M.Pharm is necessary for significant senior roles such as R&D, formulation development, regulatory leadership, and academic roles. PharmD opens up clinical pharmacy and MSL careers.
