Job Summary
This role is for a Drug Safety Physician based in Chennai, working in a hybrid setup. The physician will provide medical and safety support across ICON project teams. The role covers adverse event review, safety issue assessment, and pharmacovigilance guidance. The physician also supports regulatory reporting and client communication. Prior hospital-based clinical experience is needed, with clinical research exposure as a plus.
Key Responsibilities
Review coding, such as MedDRA, and assess adverse events and adverse drug reactions for seriousness, expectedness, and relatedness.
Review aggregated reports like patient profiles, line listings, and periodic safety update reports for product safety insight.
Assess safety issues from clinical trials or post-marketing settings and raise them to the line manager when needed.
Support and train teams on regulatory needs for expedited and periodic reporting of adverse events.
Review project-specific procedures and take part in related project meetings.
Communicate with clients as outlined in project-specific procedures.
Help prepare and run code break activities.
Review and give input on product information and core data sheets.
Offer pharmacovigilance guidance to clients on regulatory reporting requirements.
Guide medical and safety staff on adverse event reporting rules.
Take on other responsibilities as assigned by the team.
Educational Qualification
A qualified and licensed physician (MBBS) degree is required for this role.
Candidates should have 2 to 3 years of patient diagnosis and treatment experience in a hospital-based setup.
Skills Required
Strong clinical judgment from hospital-based patient care experience.
Good knowledge of GCP and good pharmacovigilance practices.
Prior experience in clinical research or pharmacovigilance is an added advantage.
Ability to review complex safety data with accuracy.
Comfort working in a hybrid and fast-paced setting.
Salary Structure
The average salary for a Drug Safety Physician at ICON plc in India typically ranges from ₹8 Lakhs to ₹10 Lakhs per year, depending on experience.
