About the Role

Job Description

Justwords is looking for experienced Freelance Medical Writers to join our growing writer network. Justwords works with brands on content and digital marketing, strategy, writing, and everything in between  across India and beyond.  A  Medical Writer is a job where  you will produce high-quality healthcare content across a range of formats and audiences. This job gives you a wide range from  clinical documentation to patient-facing educational material. You write; Justwords handles everything else: client matching, project allocation, payment processing, and administrative support. Our platform is designed in a way that it  removes the operational friction that makes independent medical writing very easy, now you don't have to  chase clients, no late payment follow-ups, and always a say in what you take on.

Key Responsibilities

Healthcare Content Writing:

 Content writing is a very important aspect. You will write various content  across a range of healthcare topics, some will be  aimed at clinical audiences, others will be written for general readers. The ability to move between those two registers is core to this role. At one instance you  may need to withstand clinical scrutiny; in the next you may need to be understood by someone with no medical background at all. Writing accurately for both audiences without oversimplifying for one or over-complicating for the other is the standard practice that will be expected from you.

Accuracy and Editorial Standards:

You notice the smallest of  the small things. When you work your work does not need to be cleaned up by an editor. When a subject is genuinely complicated, you find a way to make it readable without losing the accuracy.. You need to balance between accuracy and precision when you write a document.

Deadline and Guidelines:

Whenever a brief comes with content guidelines and a deadline you need to follow both these things seriously. You need to make sure that you  deliver clean, on-spec work within the given timeline that is the thing which makes  the relationship work for both sides.

Sample Writing and Onboarding:

New writers complete a paid sample brief that is matched to their stated background and interests. If the sample meets the standard, payment is issued before projects begin, after this you are onboarded to a project flow where you write specifically on your  areas of expertise.

Required Skills:

Dual-Register Writing Ability:

The ability to write accurately for clinical audiences and accessibly for general readers  in the same role, across different briefs  is the central skill requirement.

Attention to Detail and Self-Editing:

When writing content on any topic it is very important to pay attention to detail and also need to have strong  self-editing instincts. You catch errors in your own work before submission, and your output is consistent and clean.

Subject Matter Breadth:

 When writing on any topic you need to have a broad knowledge of the topic as the topic will be read by many people and so having a broad foundation and the ability to research and write outside your primary area of expertise will make you comfortable in writing across multiple healthcare topics.

Communication and Responsiveness:

 Communicating with the editorial team is necessary, before starting to work on any project  you need to ask  all the necessary questions about briefs early while acknowledging assignments promptly and avoiding the delays that can cause a problem.

Qualification Required

Education:

A recognised medical degree is mandatory  MBBS, BDS, MDS, MD, BHMS, BAMS, BPT, or equivalent. This is not a soft preference. The content produced requires someone who has studied medicine, not just someone comfortable researching health topics.

Experience:

Minimum 2 years of medical writing experience. Patient education content, healthcare articles, clinical documentation, pharma writing  any of these count. The experience does not need to be corporate or highly regulated, but it must be real writing work in a medical context.
